First two months

It's been two months since I started my role as a Solution Architect. What exactly do I do? Think of the bank as a housing project. Someone has to design it, build it, and manage the overall project for the client.

The architect designs the house based on the client's requirements. He plans out what goes where at a high level. He needs to have enough technical knowledge to understand what can or cannot be done. If the client asks for something too big, it's his job to advice and find workarounds for the project. The architect has to finish his design before the construction can take place. If there's a flaw in the design, it's back to the drawing board. The more planning in the beginning phase, the less disruptions during the build. After the project has taken off, the architect's role slowly fades away into the background.

The developer's role is to build based on the design plans. In my opinion, they're the heavy lifters of the job. Architects can design things in any fashion, but the developers are the real problem solvers and implementers of the features.

Project managers oversee the whole project and bring everything together within a agreed timeframe. Tasks that have dependencies on other jobs to finish are overseen by the project manager. After the project is completed, the job runs in operations mode and delivered to the client.

Enjoying my job so far. I prefer working on projects because there's something new to do and learn every day.
